Bringing much-needed affordable housing options to Connecticut’s Litchfield County, Barton Commons is nestled in the New Milford Downtown Historic District. The community offers convenient access to a number of local amenities, including public transportation and popular shops and restaurants within easy walking distance while ensuring privacy in a cozy, wooded setting.

Two new apartment buildings were constructed as part of this development. These 38 units feature a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments to meet the needs of a diverse resident population. Four additional units were created in a restored 19th-century historic residence. The gut renovation included removing a rear addition to the building and placing the main body of the house at the front of the new building. All work to the existing structure is consistent with the National Park Service’s Historic Guidelines.

Other sustainable design features include landscaping that reduces the impact on the town’s storm drains and the utilization of a new natural gas infrastructure.
