Get to Know…Bill Anderson
Bill Anderson, Vice President of Finance & Accounting
Briefly describe your career prior to joining Dakota.
My career in spans 6 different companies over 30+ years. I started at KPMG in New York and later Boston and, after 10 years, I joined the cash management team at State Street, moved to a small private equity firm for a bit, and then joining the finance team within Bank of America’s investment management business. I most recently changed industries, spending the last 6 years focused on Low Income Housing Tax Credit deals at the Cambridge Housing Authority.
What is your favorite part/are you most looking forward to about working here?
I’m pleased to continue in the Affordable Housing industry and I am attracted to Dakota’s multi state strategy. I am also looking forward to working with this team of experienced professionals in a small company environment.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
There is no one single thing, but my most valued accomplishments all center around contributing to the successes of my various teams through leadership, advising and mentoring others.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
Puedo hablar un poco Espanol.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Just what I tell my son – find your divinely given talent and develop a career path that is based on your own true interests.
How did you get started in the industry (affordable housing)?
Through networking. After Bank of America sold the money market mutual fund business I was supporting, I followed a lead from a family friend to my next role as a Deputy Fiscal Director at the CHA.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married for 20 years and we have one son, a senior at Belmont High School. We also have a 15-month-old Labrador Retriever named Rigo, and two cats, Lazenby and Girl Kitty.
What do you do for fun? Hobbies/passions outside of work.
Well, as a family we ski in the winter and spend time at the lake in Maine in the summer. I like to fish when I can and spend some free time in the garage fixing stuff. I also serve on the Town of Belmont’s Warrant Committee, and I’m also a Town Meeting member. So yeah, that’s a lot 😊
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Moving to Spain part time when my wife and I retire.
